This week, I was able to create a small financial model for a case the company I’m interning for is working on. It was a really neat opportunity to start applying what I’ve learned so far at my internship. I had to research public databases for information to enter into the model, make sure I had the company’s preferred method of formatting, and apply financial math. I thought it was pretty challenging and it took me awhile. I tried to complete my first go at it without asking for too much outside help. Going through it the next day with my supervisor was really helpful. He gave me a lot of feedback on how to construct a model. Specifically, he walked me through how to construct a model in a way that is easy for any layperson to read and understand the calculations. This was a really fun challenge, and I hope I can continue to work on projects like this.
