Blog #2: Becoming accustomed to the norm

At my internship at the veterinary hospital, I am already expected to answer the phone, run blood work, fecal tests, and prepare patients for the doctor. This, I expected. However, what I did not expect was to be expected to confront clients who’ve had a patient pass away and tell them the news. This is everyday stuff in the life of a vet, but for me it was very hard to be emotionless about it. You MUST stay emotionless. It is the same way with putting a pet under euthanasia; you must remain business-like about it, and leave the emotional stuff to the owners.
