This summer I am a research fellow in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan. I have been researching in my lab for almost two years and this summer I became a published undergraduate researcher! My research is focused on fatty livers and how knocking out a gene can influence the fatty liver phenotype. So far this summer, I have been working with my mentor to edit and prepare our paper for publishing. More recently, we have shifted our focus to a new project that focuses on two separate pathways that activate our protein of interest. I have learned new techniques like cryosectioning and immunolabeling. We are doing this to look at the differences in morphology between male and female mice livers.
I hope to continue learning more throughout this fellowship and at the end, I will be presenting my research to other fellows in the program. I am excited to continue my undergraduate research career!
