Throughout my internship, I have been able to gain exposure on new formats and structures that I had never witnessed first hand; my favorite experience, so far, was when I was able to attend a podcast interview with four generations of African American men who have attended/still attend the University of Michigan. This podcast focused on the theme of “Safe Spaces,” which touches upon the ways in which students on campus feel comfortable with their presence on campus through the incorporation of varied multicultural lounges in the dorms (e.g. Rosa Parks Lounge in Stockwell Dormitory at the University of Michigan).
As I was sitting in, being an observer throughout the podcast interview, I had the chance to experience what it was like to be in a room where backstage crew actually recorded other’s conversations for an actual podcast: it was so legit too with four chairs aligned in a circle as the four men spoke about the various topics within the theme “Safe Spaces.”
I am grateful that I was able to witness this “behind the scenes” experience!
