I’ve never had a job where I was able to sit down. That was the realization I was struck with my first day of orientation. The atmosphere was entirely new to me. Casual but charged, relaxed but motivated. Several hours of orientation, spread across four days, were spent simply on getting to know each other. Where your from, what school you go to, your field of study and your interests. My assumptions about a professional environment were shook. The feeling of genuine sense of camraderie and excitement radiating off the staff of Dream Charter school was welcoming and infectious. I spent my first week learning about the community we serviced, the school’s humble beginning and Dream’s overall manifesto of investing in others, especially those who rarely have that chance. At the end of the week, I felt prepared, comfortable and excited for the months to come as the Middle School Administrative Support intern.
