This internship has cemented my interest in radiation. I would advise students to look up faculty within their school departments and read the descriptions of many projects. After narrowing down the present options, email them with an interest to work on a project. In the lab, I worked on radiation detectors and dosimeters. I learned a great deal of using computer programs like Matlab to generate curves and equations. The impact is largely towards the field of nuclear medicine. The detectors will be used in a large well counter that is similar to an eventual setup of gamma cameras employed in the medical field. Punctuality, teamwork, and flexibility are paramount to any internship. Try to have fun with all of this.
