Dear past me,
Face this uncertain summer internship with confidence in your work ethic and in what you can offer to your research group.
You’re worrying a lot about whether or not you’re cut out for this work, and though you have a lot to learn this summer, you are able. They’ve picked you for a reason, and they wouldn’t have brought you on if you weren’t capable for the job. This summer, you’re going to learn from great mentors, gain professional experience, and make important connections with your coworkers.
You’re concerned that you won’t find anybody to befriend this summer, and you’re nervous about the house you rented and the people you’ll share it with. Thankfully, you’ll become great friends with the people in your house. You’ll get to spend weekends with your new friends exploring San Francisco and the Bay Area. You’ll share your housemate’s first Fourth of July celebration in the U.S.
This summer, you’ll learn about all the benefits of taking opportunities that excite you, even when the details aren’t all set out in front of you.
Enjoy yourself, and work hard.
