As my Freedom Summer is coming to an end I am beginning to sit back and reflect on how much I’ve learned about myself. Facilitating the curriculum to my scholars has not led me to change my major to education, but it has changed so much more for me!
It has taught me how to look beyond people’s flaws to see them for who they truly are.
It has taught me how to love someone before evening knowing them.
It has taught me how to lead by example and not by my words.
It has taught me who I am it and what I value.
It has taught me how to value the things that are truly important in life.
It has taught me to cherish every moment before it’s gone.
But most importantly it has taught me how to serve.
Looking back on my experience one of the things that I will value most is my title as a Servant Leader Intern because it means so much. I was a servant to my scholars, my community, the school, my country and our world. I served in a way that will change the nation for decades. The youth are our future and I have realized that the more I serve them, the better off we will all be, thus I vow to serve for the rest of my life.
