A little bit late to these blog posts, but this summer I have been working for a State Representative in Lansing as a Legislative Intern. This means that I have been responsible for responding to constituents that reach out to our office about legislation, helping out with events in the district, doing special projects that constituents reach out to us with, writing congratulation letters and tributes, and anything else that needs to be done around the office. Since I worked on the State Rep’s campaign, I was already familiar with her and her work, so when I saw the opportunity to intern in her office I thought it would be a good chance to learn about state level politics. After working on her campaign last summer, I wanted to focus on the next stage in politics. While I already knew the basics of how a bill becomes a law and all of that good stuff, I wanted to learn how these things are actually accomplished.
