The first major obstacle I overcame occurred when I first started working. It took me a long time to become comfortable looking at the plots I described in my previous posts. While the plot I showed is easy to determine, most often characteristics of the magnetosphere are located in regions we would not expect. However, with time, the process became easier. The next big obstacle came after I finished the database. I had taken a computer programming class a year earlier, but never mastered the material. When I started programming for my internship, I felt overwhelmed. Luckily, one of my coworkers is extremely proficient in the language we use (IDL) and kindly helped me. While I was intimidated at first to admit what I didn’t know, doing so allowed me to get to know one of my coworkers better, become a better programmer, and further my research.
