A few weeks later, with school right around the corner, my summer research is coming to a close. I have loved every minute of exploring and learning more about the field of geology and specifically apatite, the mineral that I have been working with all summer.
I recently took a trip to New York City, and while there visited the Natural History Museum. I was thrilled when I saw a small exhibit on apatite in the Hall of Minerals. The exhibit showed many different samples of apatite from various locations around the world, each one looking a little bit different. It was exciting because many of the samples were from areas that I had been working with and looking at data from all summer. It was fulfilling to be able to tell my friends why each sample looked a certain way depending on how and where it was formed. I was so excited to see how much I had actually learned through this summer research experience!
