I think being a female in STEM presents some pretty unique challenges, but also benefits. In this internship, I’ve been really lucky that there are many females in my research group. Previously, I’ve felt that being surrounded by males can feel somewhat intimidating. However, I feel less intimidated for the future since the work I accomplish here is the same work I would accomplish in a male-dominated environment. I’ve found a lot of inspiration from the graduate student I’m working with. She is very motivated and extremely helpful. We have similar working styles and she is always open to my questions and takes the time to answer them. She has been a very positive impact on my experience here.
