When I go home from work today, I’ll be done with approximately 96% of my internship. Tomorrow, I present my final project to my team and on Friday, I complete my 10 weeks. It’s crazy how fast time has flown during my time here; working 40 hour weeks really does make time fly. When I started,  I had to make a list of goals I wanted to complete. Two of them were the two projects that I was working on all summer that were assigned to me by my manager, however, I also had one personal goal that I created myself. In an attempt to define a more personal goal rather than a professional goal, I made my goal to create strong relationships with my team so that in the future, they could serve as not just old coworkers but as continuous mentors.

Although I was the only intern in my department, I was lucky enough to have an incredibly supportive team with me all summer. They helped me with everything from navigating the automotive industry (I’m a newbie) to letting me know the best lunch places around the office. I was the youngest worker on my team by far but they made my environment light and happy and it encouraged me every day. I wanted them to serve as my mentors in my future but I didn’t think that I would call them friends by the end of my time here.

My coworkers here have made me realize how important it is to have a supportive & encouraging team, no matter what the job. Without their advice and motivation, I don’t think I would’ve accomplished nearly as much at my time here and I am so thankful that I got to meet all of them.

    Hi Marlisa,

It must be exciting to have learned so much over the course of the summer. I think seeking out mentor-ship is extremely wise. Although, we are in different fields, I believe I have been extremely fortunate to find willing mentors to help me get to were I am today. I would hold on to these relationships as i have found them extremely beneficial in my career development. I also hope you find some time to rest before school starts again. I am glad that you have had a great experience at your internship and wish you the best of luck in your final presentation. You hard work will pay off!
