This summer, I’m interning in the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Unit at the American Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The IHL team educates the American public on IHL and the values on which it’s based in order to promote an understanding of and respect for humanity in armed conflict.
Recently, we had an off-sight meeting at the IHL Director’s home. We discussed our mission and vision for the IHL team. We created a detailed calendar for the year, including all of the public training that the American Red Cross will host to educate the public and working professionals about IHL.
We also discussed an amazing IHL youth program, the IHL Youth Action Campaign, which is a program that encourages youth ages 13-24 to learn about international humanitarian law and empowers them to explore IHL through peer-to-peer campaigns.
