I’m finding that Los Angeles is a lot smaller than I thought it was. I’ve been at parties, parks, bars, and tons of places where I find people in the industry just by starting conversations with strangers. They’ve helped me get in touch with people I’m interested in talking to and meeting with to get some advice from. Everyone is very friendly and just jazzed to be discussing things with people who share their interests. There have been some who are less cordial, but that’s expected anywhere. My friends and I find ourselves falling backwards into tons of opportunities to network and talk to people, and we come out of the interactions with everything from restaurant recommendations to meetings with company executives. It’s showing me that all you really have to do to get started is be outgoing and not afraid of starting conversations. There is something to learn from everyone and we’re all just out here doing our best, so it’s easy to help or be helped if you’re willing to try.
