MI-LSAMP visit

About a month ago I organized a visit for the Michigan Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, or MI-LSAMP. Their goal is to significantly increase the number of under-represented minority students earning baccalaureate degrees in the STEM disciplines and to prepare them for entry into graduate STEM degree programs. They came to central campus and I organized a tour for them so they could see places they wouldn’t get to on an ordinary tour, in particular, my physics lab and the Angell Hall Observatory. My professor told them about the basic principles of cosmology and showed them around the lab, and I gave them a tour of the telescopes in the observatory. I really enjoy teaching a group of students by showing them things, and this job allows me to do that.
