This week on Wednesday was one of the busiest days for me as the attorney I was working with had three preliminary exams. During the preliminary exam the prosecution has to present evidence on why the case should continue. One of the preliminary exam cases we had a young woman had three charges and my assignment was to read the discovery which included the police reports and to research the Michigan laws on those charges. I also had to make sure that the elements of those charges matched up with what was being said in the police reports. It was a great day because two of the charges ended up being dropped because of some evidence we as the defense brought. I honestly feel as though the work I have done during this internship has made a small difference not only in my life but those who are represented by the attorneys I have worked with.
