Finding Connections

On my last post, I talked about being “assertive” which is good, but in order to receive a person’s full attention at the door, you must find connections. The reason for this is because if you don’t give them a reason to care, then why should they get involved with the campaign? For example, if I am canvassing in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, which is near Lake St. Claire. , I will usually bring up that we work to keep that water fresh in order for people like them to fish or swim. Finding connections isn’t just about finding anything that relates to water. It is also about being nice and relating to contacts at each door. It makes people think you are genuinely interested in them (which you are) and they will be willing to what you have to say.
