Reflections | #6

It was a joy getting back to work at Darlene YS Chun again. Everyday I can feel I am learning something new or meeting someone interesting; whether it was exchanging business ideas with my mentor, Mike, or just meeting clients from all over the world, it was great. The experience not only opened my eyes to the mechanics of doing business, but it also made me realized — believe it or not — how stimulating talking to strangers can be. Watching as Mike interact with his different clients, whether he is selling a property, getting someone to rent, or just trying to get the best bargain, I had an entirely unexpected feeling — it looked fun.

As I am heading back to college, I try to take his spontaneous, talkative style with me. People seem to like it when you ask them when you  ask them for their opinions, and they are more likely to trust you as a result. Moreover, I try to bring this desire to engage with more people with me as I try to explore new avenues for entrepreneurship, something I want to do once school starts.

And thanks to Shaina and Josh for reading my blogs this summer! I appreciate your comments.

    Yiju,

I am so glad to hear that this internship had such an impact on you and your professional goals! I think it is absolutely incredible you felt so welcomed and supported by your work community.

Now that your internship is over, it may be good to stay in touch with your mentors at the company to get continual support searching for jobs! But I also think it may be beneficial to reflect on good and bad aspects of your internship and how it they link with your professional goals. Reflecting helps you to develop your skills and review their effectiveness, rather than just carry on doing things as you have always done them.

But once again, I am so excited for you in hearing your internship wasn’t exactly what you expected, but maybe exactly what you needed to gain even skills such as talking and persuasive styles! I wish you luck in your future endeavors.
