This internship has influenced my career plans in many ways. It affirmed that I want to work within the social justice field. I want my work to reflect my morality and have a positive impact on the world. I want to connect with my co-workers based on our common respect for all human beings, animals, and the earth.
I learned that working at a non-profit like MIRC is a good fit but that there the down side of often being limited by grant or donation restrictions. I came to realize that learning Spanish is something I need to more aggressively pursue. I learned that going to law school may not be the right path for me. I learned that a desk job is not a good fit for me. I learned that I like working with people and that social work might be the right path for me after all. I learned to always use my heart to insure that my work will be emotional and intentional.
